July put Luna 3 out of beta, added intelligent search and a persistent sidebar and opened Moonlit inside Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot via MCP. Coverage grew by nine new sources across six countries and we welcomed two new additions to our team.

Luna is out of beta
Luna 3 is here, the latest version of Moonlit’s AI legal research assistant, built to make legal research faster, clearer and more reliable for everyday work.
Legal research should feel like working with a knowledgeable colleague. Ask your question in plain language, without keywords or search operators, and Luna follows the way lawyers actually think. Every response is grounded in legislation and case law with citations you can verify yourself, so you can check where an answer comes from before you rely on it.
Luna now also keeps a history of your conversations. Come back to an earlier chat, revisit the answers and citations, and carry on the thread instead of starting over.
Search that understands what you mean
Intelligent search is live. Alongside exact keyword matching, Moonlit now reads the meaning behind your query, so you surface the right cases and legislation even when they do not use your exact words.
Switch it on from the search bar whenever you want broader, more relevant results.
Smarter filters, cleaner navigation
Two rounds of quality-of-life work shipped this month.
Filters got sharper:
Advanced N/A control: Choose whether empty values are included or excluded from your results.
Filter grouping: Combine multiple criteria for cleaner, more precise segmentation.
Intelligent auto-hide: Filters with zero matches disappear, so you only see options that return something.
Seamless reuse: Copy a filter name straight from search and reuse it elsewhere.
Navigation moved to a persistent left-hand sidebar, so Search, Luna, Workspaces, Monitors and Zira stay one click away wherever you are in the platform.
Moonlit runs inside Claude, ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot
Same legal data, wherever you already work. Ask a question in the assistant you use every day and Moonlit answers from 100M+ references across 30+ jurisdictions, with every answer traceable back to the source document. No new tool to learn, no tab to switch to, connect the MCP and your assistant can pull primary legislation, case law and the reference graph that links them, live.
TIPS AND HOW-TOS
Keyword or intelligent search: which one, and when
A tax lawyer needs precedent on a disputed input VAT deduction. One ruling calls it the deductibility of input VAT. Another calls the same question the right to reclaim purchase tax. A keyword search for one will not surface the other.
Keyword search matches the exact words you type, with Boolean connectors, wildcards and quoted phrases, use it when you know the term of art and want precision. Intelligent search adds meaning-based matching on top, so both rulings come back from a single query, use it when you are mapping an unfamiliar area or when the vocabulary is unsettled.

NEW ON THE TEAM
Rik Theijssen joins as Account Executive
Rik joins Moonlit as an Account Executive on our commercial team. He previously worked as an Account Executive in the SaaS space, running full sales cycles across government, manufacturing, energy and services, and before that cut his teeth in Dell’s EMEA Sales Graduate Program.
Legal data is only useful if it reaches the teams who need it. That is Rik’s job now: bringing Moonlit’s platform, MCP and API to legal professionals across Europe. Welcome to the team, Rik.
Khushi Gadhok joins as Content Marketer
Khushi joins Moonlit as a Content Marketer on the marketing team. She graduated with a Bachelor’s in Media and Information from the University of Amsterdam, and is preparing for a Master’s at the intersection of business, data and AI.

Pravno-informacioni sistem (RS). Consolidated Serbian legislation and regulations.
CNIL (FR). Data protection decisions, sanctions and guidance.
Banca d’Italia (IT). Supervisory measures, circulars and regulatory publications.

INDUSTRY AND LEGAL DEVELOPMENTS
Worth watching: EU Data Act, Article 3
The Data Act has applied across the EU since 12 September 2025. One year later, on 12 September 2026, the design-by-default obligation under Article 3 kicks in: every connected product placed on the EU market from that date has to be designed so the user can access the data it generates. By default, without a workaround.
The fine print is where the work will happen. What counts as “connected”? What is user-generated data versus inferred data? Where does trade-secrets protection bite against transparency? National data protection authorities, market surveillance bodies and the European Data Innovation Board are all still publishing positions.
